Worked for the Birmingham News, 1977-80; feature editor for Southern Living, 1980-84; regional editor for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 1984-85. Book of the Year Selection for Crazy in Alabama; Distinguished Alumni Award, University of Alabama, ; Writer of the Year, Alabama Library Association, 1994.
