Army, 1944-46.  Taught at Eastern Baptist College in St. Davids, Pa., 1952-1961;  at Samford University, 1961-2001; Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Samford, 1975-1990.  Member of the American Historical Association, American Baptist Historical Association, Southern Baptist Historical Association, Southern Historical Association, Alabama Historical Association, Kappa Phi Kappa, and Rotary Club.
