Biologist; university professor. University of Washington, Seattle, Ph. D., 1976. Professor of biology at Auburn University, 1976-2010 . Published many articles and reviews. Director of the Human Odyssey Program at Auburn (examining connections between science and the humanities). Edited the Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science, 1990-2005. Awarded the 2002 Academic Freedom Award of the Auburn Chapter of the AAUP, several teaching awards, and three Carmichael Awards for outstanding research articles. Received status of professor emeritus on his retirement from Auburn in 2010.
