Taught at University of South Alabama, Bucknell University, Knox College, Galesburg, IL; Sewanee University, University of Mississippi. Writer-in-Residence, Sewanee University, 2002-03; John and Renee Grisham Writer-in-Residence, University of Mississippi, 2001-02. Published short stories and essays in journals and anthologies. Guggenheim Fellow, 2001; Edgar Award for best short story for Poachers.
