Education– University of Alabama, A.B., 1938, M.A., 1940; University of North Carolina, Ph.D., 1947. Taught history and served as associate dean of men, University of Alabama, 1942-1957; professor of history, University of Houston, 1957-1980 ( acting dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, University of Houston, 1974-75).. Member, Organization of American Historians, Southern Historical Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Beta Kappa. Founding member, Birmingham Southern Endowment Builders. Awarded emeritus status at the University of Houston on retirement, 1980. Died March 28, 2000.
