Biography:

Baptist minister.. Born– April 24, 1865, Chambers County. Parents– Andrew Jackson and Marie Antoinette (Bailey) Dawson. Married– Margaret Samuel Lewis, October 30, 1890. Children– Two. Education– Howard College, A.B., 1886; graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1889; studied at George Washington University (before 1904 known as Columbian University), the University of Alabama, and the University of Berlin, Germany. Entered Baptist ministry, 1884; pastored churches in Kentucky, 1888-1892 and in Tuscaloosa, 1892-1924; taught at Howard College, 1924-1938; founded Edgewood Baptist Church, Birmingham, in 1926 and served as its pastor, 1926-1938. Served as president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, Southern Baptist Young People’s Union, and Rotary International. Member of the Alabama Baptist State Executive Committee and Southern Baptist Educational Association. Awarded the honorary D.D. by Howard College, 1897.   Edgewood Baptist Church was renamed Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in his honor.  Died January 14, 1938.
