Biography:

College English instructor. Born– March 4, 1892.┬áMontgomery. Parents– Charles A. and Virginia (Scott) Coleman. Education– University of Alabama, A.B.; Swarthmore College, M.A., 1923. Taught at Lanier High School, 1912-1918; head of the English department at Swarthmore College; taught in the English department at the University of Alabama, 1927-62. First female member of the faculty at the University of Alabama. Great-granddaughter of President John Tyler. Died July 1981.
