Interests/Position Andrew completed his PhD from Brown University in 2004, with an emphasis on war and culture in the twentieth-century United States. His first book, “The Warrior Image: Soldiers in American Culture from the Second World War to the Vietnam Era,” appeared in 2008 from the University of North Carolina Press. He is currently working on a second manuscript, “Love and Death in the Great War,” an account of three doughboys in World War I based in part on a large collection of letters between an American soldier and his wife. With the help of two Computer-Based Honors students at the University of Alabama, he is working to digitize and inventory the letters for an interactive website aimed at researchers and students.
