Education&#8211; University of Alabama, B.F.A.,1958, \u00a0M.A., 1959.\u00a0 Taught at the University of Alabama, 1959-61; at Memphis State University, 1962-68; at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., 1968-2009\u00a0.Considered\u00a0\u00a0one of the most important artists of the rural South. Honors&#8211; Lyndhurst Foundation prize, 1982; Honorary DFA, Kansas City Art Institute, 1983; Jimmy Ernst Award in Art, American Academy of Arts and Letters, 2010; honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, University of Alabama, 1998.
