{"id":9206,"date":"2019-03-27T12:51:48","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T19:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lib.ua.edu\/Alabama_Authors\/?p=9206"},"modified":"2019-03-28T07:30:37","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T14:30:37","slug":"dunnavant-keith-1964","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lib.ua.edu\/Alabama_Authors\/?p=9206","title":{"rendered":"DUNNAVANT, KEITH, 1964 &#8211;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Biography:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Author, documentary filmmaker, magazine executive, entrepreneur, writer, and\u00a0sportswriter.\u00a0 Born:\u00a0 November 2, 1964, Athens, Alabama.\u00a0Parents: Robert (Bob) and Marjorie Dunnavant.\u00a0 Education: The University of Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Dunnavant is the author of seven books, including SPY PILOT, a true story of Cold War intrigue and redemption (with Francis Gary Powers, Jr.), and definitive biographies of football icons Paul &#8220;Bear&#8221; Bryant, Bart Starr and Joe Montana.\u00a0His books often explore the collision of sports and culture, including THE MISSING RING, which focused on the 1966 University of Alabama football team&#8217;s pursuit of perfection in an imperfect world, against the backdrop of the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, and a time and place on the brink.\u00a0THE FIFTY-YEAR SEDUCTION, his book about television&#8217;s manipulation of college football, the rise of the all-powerful NCAA,\u00a0and the impact of the Supreme Court&#8217;s landmark Board of Regents decision, has been widely utilized as a college textbook.\u00a0Dunnavant started his career as a teenage sportswriter for small newspapers in North Alabama and parlayed his\u00a0early experience into a full scholarship to the University of Alabama as a writer\/editor inside the Crimson Tide athletic department.
