Writer; celebrity personality. Born– September 30, 1924, New Orleans, La. Parents–Archulus\u00a0and Lillie Mae Persons;\u00a0\u00a0adopted by his stepfather Joseph G. Capote. Education– Trinity School; St. John’s Academy in New York and the schools of Greenwich, Conn. Reared mostly by\u00a0relatives in Alabama, New York and New England until the age of nine.\u00a0 Began work sorting cartoons at the New Yorker at the age of 17.\u00a0 Wrote novels, plays, and short stories;\u00a0 published in\u00a0many periodicals and anthologies. \u00a0Received O. Henry Memorial Awards for short stories, 1946, 1949, 1951; received the creative writing award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters, 1959; nominated for the National Book Award in 1967, for In Cold Blood.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Became a well-known socialite and celebrity personality.\u00a0 Died August 25, 1984.<\/p>\n
