Born&#8211; March 21, 1863, Kingstree, S.C. Parents&#8211; John P. and Mary Malissa Savage Bryan. Married&#8211;Leonora Clayton Howze, 1891.\u00a0 Children&#8211; seven. \u00a0Education&#8211; University of North Carolina, B.A., 1885; Princeton Theological Seminary, B. D., \u00a01889. Taught at Gastonia Female Institute, 1884-1885. Supply minister in Birmingham, summer of 1888. Ordained, August 4, 1889. \u00a0Pastor, Third Presbyterian Church, 1889-1941. Known as &#8220;Brother Bryan&#8221; for his service to the poor and homeless. Advocated for prohibition and civil rights. City of Birmingham placed a statue of Brother Bryan by George Bridges in Five Points South. Bryan Mission, Bryan Park, \u00a0and Bryan Presbyterian Church in Birmingham were named in his honor.\u00a0 Elected to the Alabama Men&#8217;s Hall\u00a0of Fame, 2001.\u00a0 Died January 28, 1941.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hunter B.
