Dean of the\u00a0School of Arts and Sciences at UAB, 1984-98.\u00a0\u00a0Visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh, 1979. Published many articles in professional journals. Member of the American Philosophical Association; member and president of the Alabama Chapter of the Jane Austen Society.
