(Moved to Alabama at the age of eight).\u00a0 Parents&#8211;William Raiford and Frances Dickson Pickett.\u00a0 Married&#8211; Sarah Smith Harris.\u00a0 Children&#8211; nine.\u00a0 Education&#8211; attended Stafford County Academy in Virginia and Harvard College;\u00a0 read law with his brother William Dickson Pickett but never practiced.\u00a0 Operated a plantation in Autauga County; wrote on historical and agricultural subjects for newspapers and journals; did extensive research for his history of Alabama and for a history of the Southwest which he was writing at the time of his death.\u00a0 Military aide to Governor Clement C. Clay.
