Education&#8211;B.S., Davidson College; M.D., Harvard Medical School, 1952.\u00a0Came to UAB as\u00a0 resident in 1956; \u00a0Chief Resident, 1957-58; joined the UAB faculty in 1959; Dean of the School of Medicine, UAB, 1973-1992.\u00a0 Member of many professional organizations and boards.\u00a0 Published articles in professional journals. Named a distinguished professor at UAB, and a distinguished alumnus by the Alabama Medical Alumni Association.\u00a0Awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by Davidson College in 1980 and by UAB in 1982. Elected to Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame and Alabama Academy of Honor.\u00a0\u00a0The Pittman Scholars program, supporting the research efforts of junior faculty, was created in his honor.
