Military service:\u00a0 U.S. Army, Vietnam. \u00a0 Author of many articles in professional journals and anthologies as well as books;\u00a0 leading voice in scholarship of the\u00a0literature of\u00a0 the war in Vietnam.\u00a0 Received the Henry Jacobs Award for excellence in teaching, 1989; the Eugene Current-Garcia Award for Literary Scholarship from the Alabama College English Teachers Association, 1999; the Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award from the University of Alabama, 1999.<\/p>\n
