Education&#8211; St. Lawrence University, B.S., 1926; Carnegie Institute of Technology, 1926-1928; Columbia University, 1928-1929; University of Chicago, M.A.; Yale University, Ph.D., 1937. Taught at\u00a0Ball State Teachers College, 1930-1932; Western Reserve University, 1936-1945; University of Iowa, 1945-1950; University of Tulsa, 1950-1952; University of Arkansas, 1952-74. Visiting professor appointments at several universities; Sterling Fellow in Europe, 1938-1939; Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship, 1939; Arkansas Alumni Association Award, 1973. Member; American Theater Association; American Society for Theater Research. Directed over 100 plays; translated and produced eight Moliere plays.
