Practicing attorney in Selma, 1908-1921; judge, 4th Judicial Circuit of Alabama, 1921-1926, afterward returning to practice of law. Member, 74th through 81st U.S. Congresses (1935-1951), representing fourth Alabama District. Chairman, Muscle Shoals Commission, 1931, chairman of Alabama&#8217;s National Recovery Admission Committee, 1913. Member, Dallas Co., Ala., and American Bar Associations, American Judicature Society. Honors&#8211; University of Alabama, LL.D., 1949.
