Born&#8211; May 22, 1842, in Heard County, Ga. Parents&#8211; William Henry and Eliza Ann (Bennett) Houghton. Married&#8211; Anna M. Streety, December 21, 1875. Children&#8211; One. Education&#8211; From age fifteen, alternately taught school and attended an academy until 1860. Served in the Confederate Army, 1861-1865. Studied law, 1865-1866; admitted to the bar in Dale County, 1866; practiced law at Hayneville, 1866-1887, then moved to Birmingham.
