Employed by the Birmingham Post, 1932-1936; co-founder of magazine <em>Alabama: The News Magazine of the Deep South, <\/em>1937; \u00a0worked for American Mercury as associate editor, 1941-1943, editor and publisher, 1945-1951;\u00a0 lecturer and freelance writer, 1951-1986. Covered the Civil Rights Movement in the South. \u00a0Awarded Alabama Library Association Award for Best Non-Fiction Book, 1975.\u00a0 Co-host of television program Longines <em>Chronoscope, <\/em>similar to the later <em>Meet the Press<\/em>. Inducted into the University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Science Hall of\u00a0 Fame.
