Education&#8211; Harvard College, B.A., 1942; Stanford University, 1946. U.S. Army Air Force, WWII. Married&#8211; Dorothy Elliot. Children&#8211; Two. Married&#8211; Adrianna Keathley, August 12, 1962. Served in U.S. Army Air Force, WWII.\u00a0 Reporter for Birmingham Post-Herald, 1949-1956;\u00a0press officer\u00a0for British Tourist Authority in New York, 1957-82. Free-lance writer after 1982; wrote\u00a0poetry for periodicals\u00a0and anthologies.\u00a0Wrote plays,\u00a0two of which were produced in New York.\u00a0 Received the Eunice Tietjens Award from Poetry Magazine, 1951. Runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize, 1966.\u00a0 Best Book of the Year Award from the Southeastern Booksellers Association, 1998.\u00a0 First recipient of the ABA Online Award, 1998.\u00a0 Named Alabama poet laureate, 2012. An inaugural inductee into the Alabama Authors Hall of Fame, 2015.
