Education&#8211; University of Alabama, B.S., 1914, M.A. 1915; University of Chicago; Vanderbilt University, Ph.D., 1935. \u00a0Taught history at Huntingdon College and Athens College, but had his teaching career cut short when he lost his ability to speak after cancer surgery.
