Married&#8211;Elizabeth Peterson Philips, December 29, 1923.\u00a0\u00a0Education&#8211;University of Michigan, 1921.\u00a0 US Navy, WWI. Work as superintendent, Crucible Steel,, 1926-30; St. Louis Gas and Coke, 1930-33. Came to Birmingham in 1933 to work as superintendent of the blast furnaces of the Sloss Sheffield Steel and Iron Company; from 1935 to 1937 he worked on the same job for the Woodward Iron Company; worked in Pennsylvania, 1936-48; President of Woodward Iron Company, 1948-57. Active\u00a0in Birmingham\u00a0civic affairs;\u00a0a director of the Community Chest, the Committee of 100, and the Birmingham Civic Symphony.
