Scanning and imaging vocabulary

CCD: the digital eye that sits inside the scanback. this device is similar to a flatbeds scanhead, however much smaller, more powerful, and more expensive. :)
DPI: stands for "dots per inch" also referred to as resolution.
Scanback: the piece of hardware that sits in the camera where the ccd is housed. This is the thing that does the scanning.
