==Transcribing==
The software behind [http://transcribe.lib.ua.edu transcribe.lib.ua.edu] is more complex; it includes [http://scripto.org/ Scripto], [www.mediawiki.org/ MediaWiki], and [http://omeka.org Omeka] for display. As such, it uses two separate MySQL databases, not just one; and the storage of information is a bit complex, including base64 encoding and decoding of combined database keys. One of the drawbacks to this setup is that it's designed to allow extraction of a single item's transcript at a time via the user interface; and all pages for that item are combined into a single document. Again, I analyzed the databases (including the multiple dependencies) and wrote software to batch upload, extract, and delete based on collection number (and optional box number, since we are only loading one box at a time of large collections).
