* CAMERA NOT TURNING ON? If the power to the camera is unexpectedly cut (you unplug it, there is a power outage, etc.), when it reboots it will need some intervention. Otherwise, the camera will appear to not be working (i.e., the front readout will stay blank, like it's turned off). You will need to climb onto a stool and look down at the top of the camera so you can respond to the message it displays there. Then, the front readout should light up and the camera should operate as normal.

We currently have the following models of camera for use in digitization.

Contents

Canon EOS 7D

  • Locations
    • room 215, on the old scanback workstation(Galvatron)
    • room 216, on the homemade workstation (Optimus Prime)
  • Lens Compatibility
    • 50mm lens is optimal
    • 100mm lens will not be very useful (unless you are shooting very small items)
    • 14mm wide angle lens is fine for the taller 216 workstation but should not be used on the smaller 215 workstation (due to lighting setup)

Canon EOS 5D, Mk III

  • Location: in room 214, on the old captureback workstation (Snapdragon)
  • Lens Compatibility
    • 50mm lens is optimal
    • 100mm lens is optimal
    • 14mm wide angle lens is fine
  • CAMERA NOT TURNING ON? If the power to the camera is unexpectedly cut (you unplug it, there is a power outage, etc.), when it reboots it will need some intervention. Otherwise, the camera will appear to not be working (i.e., the front readout will stay blank, like it's turned off). You will need to climb onto a stool and look down at the top of the camera so you can respond to the message it displays there. Then, the front readout should light up and the camera should operate as normal.

Canon EOS 5D, Mk I

  • Location: room 215, on the reconfigured bookdrive workstation (Weirdwolf)
  • Lens Compatibility
    • 50mm lens is optimal
    • 100mm lens will work well but only for smaller items (such as photographs)
    • 14mm wide angle lens should not be used (due to lighting setup)
  • Software Compatibility: This model is not compatible with our current version of EOS Utility, so this workstation is not currently in use

Matching Lens to Camera

Current (5D Mk I not in use)

  • 5D Mk III = 100mm
  • 7D (215) = 50mm
  • 7D (216) = 50mm

This is because we only have two 50mm lenses and the 5D Mk III is the only camera that is suitable for the 100mm. If the 14mm wide angle is needed for larger scans, it must go on the 7D in 216.

With 5D Mk I in use

  • 5D Mk I = 50mm
  • 5D Mk III = 100mm
  • 7D (215) = 50mm
  • 7D (216) = 14mm wide angle
