revised: 2:39 PM Friday, February 11, 2011 12:59 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011 ----------------------------------- Part 1: From the Windows 7 desktop: Click on BookDrive icon. This is a shortcut to a virtual installation of Windows XP 32-bit. Basically that means Windows XP will run as an application inside of Windows 7. This is required because the BookDrive camera won't work under our version of Windows 7 (64-bit Enterprise Edition). Wait for the virtual XP "box" to load. Part 2: If the camera is off, proceed to Part 3 immediately. If the camera is on, click on the USB option menu at the top of the XP box. If you seee an option that reads a la "Canon Digital Camera release" then do nothing. If you see an option that reads a la "Canon Digital Camera attach" then click on that option to make the XP box aware of the camera. Part 3: On the XP box's desktop you will see the icon for the BookDrive Capture software. Click on it. Part 4: Under Tools, set the BookDrive Capture software to save to the computer's hard drive. That is to say that the XP box is a virtual operating system within a virtual hard drive. As far as the XP box knows, there is no Windows 7. So we need to tell the BookDrive Capture to save to the real hard disk which will be called something like: C on HL-215-007 It is on this drive that you will find familiar folders like "Digital Program", etc. So after digging around for "Digital Program" under "C on HL-215-007", the save location for item "u0002_0000001_0000001" from the Rammer Jammer would appear as: "\\tsclient\C\Digital Program\Rammer Jammer\u0002_0000001_0000001" when you tell the BookDrive Capture software to save to it. Part 5: Now, turn on camera and lights if they are not already on. In turning the camera on, move the on/off lever all the way up (i.e. one step past "On"). Part 6: The BookDrive software should report the camera is detected. It should report camera settings similar to those below: 1/15 (shutter speed) F7.1 (aperture) ISO 320 (iso speed) M (focus setting from dial) RAW (image quality) AWB (auto white balance) Part 7: Then use CAPTURE>DOUBLE CAPTURE to get a photo. If this doesn't work and the camera setting are not showing up on the BookDrive Capture software, try turning the camera back off and on and once again click on USB>"Canon Digital Camera attach" if needed. If this still doesn't work, try closing the Capture software and taking a photo wit the Canon EOS Utility 2.0 software. This can often "jump start" the camera. If you successfully took a picture with EOS Utility, try the Capture software again. Part 8: After you are done with taking pictures, close the Capture software. Close the XP box. Part 9: To optimize: DO NOT work inside the virtual machine (which you just closed). Go to the Windows 7 desktop and access the files as you normally would. You'll need to use the Photoshop "Raw Editor" to optimize the photos taken with the BookDrive. You'll also need to save the files as .tif files and throw away any other files remaining from the process (.CR2 and .xmp files). ---------- Remember to NEVER: * access the internet through the Virtual Machine. * alter any virtual box settings. * do a "restart" of the virtual box w/out supervisory approval.
