Off-Campus Connection Problems FAQ
Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

There can be problems when trying to access the Libraries' catalog, databases and e-journal articles. Here are some common causes of access failure:

  • eLearning links are not formatted properly.
Most instructors don’t realize that database vendors do not permit users to cut-and-paste links from online resources. For directions on how to create links so that students won’t have access problems, visit eLearning Support.

  • There is a firewall installed.
If you cannot connect from another workplace or location where there is a firewall, you will need to either disable it or access resources from a different location.

  • The article is not available online.
Not all articles are available online or with full-text. Before assigning an article for a class reading, please verify that the article is available. To check the status of an electronic subscription, search for the title from the e-journals page.

  • You are not logged in.
If you are unsuccessful in placing a hold, recall, or annex request, make sure you are logging in using your CWID and last name. If a database is prompting you for a login, make sure you are connecting through the library website. If you try to connect to the database directly, you may not be recognized as a UA user.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader or internet browser needs to be updated.
