Where to get the Equipment

Recording Equipment:
Cameras, tripods and audio recorders are available at the Sanford Media Center, Gorgas Library 2nd floor. Call 348-4651. Reserve in advance.
Editing Software:
The Sanford Media Center has iMovie and Final Cut Pro. If you need help learning how to use the software, please set up a Consultation with the SMC staff.

Important Dates:

March 5, Midnight: Deadline to enter a team
March 31, Midnight: Video submission deadline
April 11, 2:30-4:00pm: Finalist viewing event
April 12-16: Online voting
April 19: Winners announced via library website

The purpose of the video competition is to promote library resources and services. The first place video, if not more, will be use as promotional material by the University Libraries.


Requirements:
• Teams of 3 currently enrolled students
• 3-5 minutes in length
• Videos must be submitted to the SMC, located in 205B Gorgas Library, on a CD-R or DVD-R as a data file in .mov format (full quicktime), along with a completed submission form.
• All videos must be original work and cannot contain copyrighted material. The use of University of Alabama logos and music is restricted to the objects in the package provided to contestants.

Videos must include:
• Gorgas first floor
• The Sanford Media Center
• How to get reference/research help
• One other topic of choice. This element can include Gorgas, Bruno, Rodgers, McLure or Hoole Libraries.

Notes:
Please respect the privacy of others in the library, and don’t film them without asking for permission first.

The content should be appropriate for the general public. Videos must be free of strong language and explicit sexual content.

All contestants must be currently enrolled students.

Judging:

First Round: The submissions will be reviewed to make sure they do not contain copyrighted material, that the team obtained all necessary release signatures, and that the videos are within the time frame of 3-5 minutes. Submissions that do not meet this criteria will will not move on to the second round.

Second Round: A panel of judges will select the finalists. The number of finalists will be determined by the quality of the entries. April 11 will be the annoucement and showing of all videos that make the finals. The competition t-shirts for participants will be avaliable at this event.

Third Round: All the finalist's videos will be be available for public vote on the University Libraries website. The winner(s) will be announced via the same place.

Prizes

The first 100 resistered participants will receive T-Shirts.

For the top three videos, each registered team member will receive the following:
First Place: camcorder, tripod, HCSD Card, bag, headphones
Second Place: iPod Nano
Third Place: iPod Shuffle
