Can’t find the books you need?
Don’t worry! You have many options.
Universal Borrowing
Universal borrowing is a service offered by several Alabama academic libraries
(ALLIES). Users from any participating library can borrow books from the other
libraries, either on-site with a photo ID or by requesting the items through
their library
catalog.
The current members
of ALLIES are:
- Auburn University
- Auburn University at Montgomery
- Jacksonville State University
- University of Alabama
- University of Alabama at Birmingham (Sterne Library)
Interlibrary Loan
(ILL)
ILL works with a national network of libraries to order periodical articles and
books unavailable at the UA Libraries. At no cost, students, faculty, and staff
may use the service. Special students (not in a degree program), and community
users are ineligible for ILL privileges. Most orders take two
weeks, though some may take longer. You may fill out an ILL form
online at http://illserver.lib.ua.edu/illiad/logon.html.
KUDZU
KUDZU is a service that offers you the ability to search the library catalogs of over fifteen research libraries throughout the Southeast--all at the same time! When you identify a book you'd like to borrow, click on the title to see whether a copy is available (not checked out) at any of the locations. Then click on the "Interlibrary Loan" button at the top of the page to submit your request to our Interlibrary Loan office. KUDZU requests get special priority, and your request will be filled more quickly than a typical interlibrary loan request. Only books are available through KUDZU at this time, and users must have an active Interlibrary Loan account.
WorldCat
WorldCat, available via the OCLC FirstSearch system, contains more than 43
million records describing books and periodicals owned by libraries nationwide.
WorldCat does not list articles published within periodicals. One special
feature of the WorldCat database is library ownership identification (attached
to each book or periodical record is a list of libraries that own the book
or periodical). You may initiate an Interlibrary Loan request directly from
WorldCat. Worldcat
can be accessed through the the
UA Libraries Databases link on the Libraries' Web site. Click on "Databases" and
then click on "W" under "BROWSE ALPHABETICAL LIST"
NAAL
University of Alabama Libraries is a member of the Network of
Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL). Libraries
participating
in the
network
offer borrowing privileges to all students attending one of the participating
institutions.
