Course Reserve - How to locate material on reserve

Instructions on how to place material on reserve can be found here.

Reserve collections in the libraries consist of materials faculty members have designated for specific class assignments. Course reserves may be in print or electronic format.

Search Course Reserves


Reserve materials are listed in Course Reserve in the Libraries' Catalog. Within Course Reserve, you may search for material by instructor's name, department, or course number, or any combination of the three. Materials on reserve for a particular class or instructor are listed alphabetically by title. Choose the appropriate title by clicking on it. If the item is not available electronically, it will have a call numbe

Go to the appropriate library's circulation desk to request the course reserve item.

In order to check out print reserve materials, you must show a University of Alabama Action card. Only three reserve items may be checked out at one time. All reserve items must be returned to the appropriate reserve desk. Reserve items may not be renewed.


All articles, tests, and class notes placed by faculty are offered electronically. Viewing E-Reserves may require the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Articles may also be linked in Blackboard if your instructor is using it for your course.

How to locate electronic reserves:

  1. Go to the the Libraries' Catalog
  2. Choose Course Reserve
  3. Scroll through the list of Instructors until you find your instructor's name. All items will be listed alphabetically by title.
  4. Choose the appropriate title by clicking on it.
  5. Choose Click here to view .
  6. The article should appear and be ready to print.

Frequently asked questions about e-reserve

The article I printed is in a mirror image or is viewing upside down. What do I do?
Please contact the appropriate library and supply the name of the instructor, course name and number, and the affected title.

The article will not come up on the screen. What do I do?
We have found that the articles take a long time to download off campus. You need to have the most current Adobe Acrobat Reader (). You may find that it is easier to print the article while you are on campus. It is definitely quicker.

Can I e-mail articles to myself?
Yes, you may email the article to yourself by first saving the article to the My Documents folder on the computer. Then attaching the file to an email sent to yourself.
