Vision Statement

The Sanford Media Resource and Design Center was created to provide University of Alabama students with a leading-edge facility for digital media production. The Sanford Resource and Design Center fosters a commitment as a learning environment with a high-level of creative, productive output. With the Center's computers, audio-visual hardware, software, and instruction, users have the experience of becoming producers and authors of multimedia content. By being an open resource for students at-large, the Center provides for collaborative and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

Available resources in the Center allow students to work in the following areas: graphic design, web design, remote file transfer, page layout, video editing, DVD authoring, audio recording, musical composing, CD authoring, and file format conversion. The Center is stocked with Apple Quad Processer G% towers, G5 dual-processor towers, video decks, audio decks, MIDI work station, video cameras, still digital cameras, scanners, and printers. The Center provides access to the following software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Macromedia Flash MX, Macromedia Director MX, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Roxio Toast Titanium, Motion, iLife 2006 Suite, Felt Tip Sound Studio, and Apple Logic.

Students may request instructional modules that cover basic software techniques. In order to reserve cameras, there is a required module. Modules are offered regularly during the course of each semester. Media specialists staff the center and are available for consultation and one-on-one instruction.

The Sanford Media Resource and Design Center was funded through a generous gift from Dr. and Mrs. Arthur R. Taylor Jr., of Demopolis, in honor of Mrs. Taylor's grandmother, Lillie Florence Jones Sanford.

You can find out more about our center by watching this streaming video about our first two and a half years in operation.
