The University Libraries offer two 50 minute library instruction sessions for each EN 102, 103 and 104 throughout the fall, spring, and summer terms.
These classes are designed as working sessions and must be scheduled to coincide with an assignment requiring library research.
Both sessions will utilize the UA Libraries discovery tool, SCOUT, which searches the UA Libraries’ physical and electronic holdings as well as a variety of databases such as Academic Search Premier. As the skills and concepts that students learn are universally applicable, individual databases will not be covered unless specifically requested by the instructor. The basic functionality of SCOUT will be introduced to students prior to library sessions through the library’s SCOUT: Basic Search and SCOUT: Advanced Search video tutorials, accessible through the Library’s YouTube channel (UofAlabamaLibraries [3]) or through the EN 102 LibGuides. We encourage you to include these video tutorials in your blackboard course shells and in your syllabus, as this information will not be covered in depth during face to face library instruction sessions.
