The University of Alabama seeks an energetic, flexible, and innovative applicant for the position of Web Services Librarian to work in a team environment with other library faculty and staff. Reporting to the Head of Web Services, the Web Services Librarian will maintain our discovery system application, and assist in managing, maintaining and extending the University Libraries’ web presence. The Web Services Librarian will also work closely with faculty and staff to ensure that content is accessible, accurate, timely, and appropriate.
Specifically, The Web Services Librarian position assists in the management of our various WordPress installations (library blogs and associated web sites) and other web-based applications that enhance access to collections for University of Alabama patrons, furthers the web services department’s activities, and facilitates the work of library employees, students, faculty and staff.
Additionally, the candidate will serve as the manager and primary point of contact for the University Libraries’ EBSCO Discovery Service application and be responsible for coordinating and resolving issues as well as finding, developing and implementing enhancements. They will work with department colleagues in maintaining and supporting websites using the WordPress Content Management System, and in developing new web applications and software tools that support our WordPress-based websites. The successful candidate will maintain currency with web technologies, software, tools, and solutions and participate in evaluation, assessment, and training efforts.

IT Tech Specialist IV - Web Services
University Libraries employs student assistants in each of the libraries. Typical jobs include checking-out library materials, searching for bibliographic information, assisting library users, and shelving returned materials. Most student assistant positions do not require previous work experience. The libraries are looking for students with good time management skills who can balance work, study, and other campus activities. Dependability, accuracy, and a strong service orientation are other characteristics important to successful work in the libraries. Hours vary depending on the needs of each library unit.
