Special Check Out Arrangements
If necessary, library users with special needs may designate another individual to check out library material on their behalf. A letter from the library user and identification are required.
Non-circulating Materials (Reference)
Most non-circulating material may be taken from the libraries for a short period of time to be used at the adaptive technologies workstations.
Extended Loan Periods for Course Reserve Materials
Extended loan periods for course reserve materials may be arranged as necessary upon recommendation of the instructor.
Interlibrary Loan Materials
Requests for materials through interlibrary loan are made electronically. ( Interlibrary Loan Request Form [1]) Library users with special needs should contact the Interlibrary Loan staff at (205) 348-6345 for specialized service.
Hours of Service [2]
At certain times (evenings, weekends, and holidays), the library staff may not be able to provide all services. It is recommended that library users contact the libraries in advance at these times to determine what services are available.
University Cooperation
University Libraries cooperates with the Office of Disability Services [3], the Office of Student Life [4], the Center for Teaching and Learning [5], SCADA (Students Concerned About Disability Awareness), and the University faculty and students to ensure that appropriate services are offered.
Staff Training
Library employees (faculty, staff, and student assistants) receive training on an ongoing basis to assist them in meeting the needs of users with disabilities. Staff awareness manuals are available in each department.
