NCSE is an organization working to defend the teaching of evolution. NCSE also works to increase public understanding of evolution and science "as a way of knowing," and offers programs to help teachers who want to improve their teaching of evolution.

National Institute for Science Education (NISE) www.wcer.wisc.edu/nise/
The National Science Foundation's National Institute for Science Education (NISE) was funded in 1995 for five years as a cooperative agreemnet. NSF directed the Institute to "address the totality of the [science] education enterprise, to assess its effectiveness, examine what new activities need to be established, what activities are no longer needed, and what new approaches will enhance science education."
