Defined: 1) The process of assisting an individual to understand himself and the world around him and to gain knowledge of the implications of this understanding for educational progress, career development, and personality fulfillment; 2) A form of systematic assistance (aside from regular instruction) to pupils, students, or others to help them assess their abilities and liabilities and to that information effectively in daily life.
