Journals

McLure Education Library book stacks houses over 450 periodical titles in print and online. The current periodicals, published within the past year, are located in the main floor reading room. They are organized alphabetically by title on shelves along the wall. Newsletters and other recent unbound journals can also be found in labeled filing cabinets in the reading room. Bound periodicals from previous years are located on the main floor in the stacks, arranged by call number. In order to find the call number of a particular journal, perform a “journal title” search in the Library’s online catalog, Scout (http://scout.lib.ua.edu/).

Most of the periodicals found in McLure are indexed in ERIC, Education Full Text, and Professional Development Collection (EBSCO) along with many other journals that are only available online. Online journals may also be accessed via the Library’s catalog.  Many are available in multiple formats, but the catalog entry will provide a direct link to the location of any online titles. If accessing online journals off-campus, a Bama ID and password are required.

Once journals and journal articles have been located, copies can be made using student or faculty Action Cards or Community User cards for a small fee; likewise, online articles may be printed in the library for $0.05/sheet (black & white) and $0.15/sheet (color).

Only faculty and graduate students may check out bound journals with the following conditions: The journals must be five years or older, no more than three journals may be checked out at a time, for a maximum of five days, with one renewal allowed. Undergraduate and community members are restricted to in-library use only.
