Typescript copy of minutes of meeting of citizens of Daniel's Prairie, Greene County, Alabama, to establish a female academy at Burton's Hill, to be named the Greene County Union Female Institute; constitution and amendments.

Hugh Davis papers, 1825-1898
Extensive correspondence, business records, and receipts of this Marion, Alabama, plantation owner and attorney, and his family.

Jefferson F. Davis papers, 1823-1917
Personal correspondence, much of it to family members. Correspondents include Braxton Bragg, Jubal Early, William Mercer Green, Christina Rossetti, Mrs. Mary Custis Lee, and Wade Hampton. Also includes correspondence to and from his wife, Varina Howell Davis, and miscellaneous correspondence of the Davis and Howell families. Includes letters, many of which are copies, and three folders of photographs.

Frances Durham paper, 1960 April 22
Address entitled "Thomas C. DeLeon, Blind Author of Alabama," delivered by Frances Durham to the Alabama Historical Association, April 22, 1960. The paper discusses the life of this novelist, playwright, newspaper editor, and theatre director who edited the Mobile Register in the late 1800s and was reportedly involved in the revival of Mobile Mardi Gras in the post-Civil War era.

Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Chapter (Tuscaloosa) records, 1939-1999
Documentation of the annual activities of the Tuscaloosa chapter of this international education society. The records include minutes, annual reports, financial reports and records, histories, yearbooks, correspondence, directories, and other materials.

Accounts for drug store in Carlowville, Alabama. Includes customers' purchases and amounts paid and owed.

Jere Clemens Dennis papers, 1841-1935
Personal, family, and business papers of this Tallapoosa County attorney. Includes legal case files, Sons of Confederate Veterans materials, Alabama National Guard, and Masonic materials.

A letter from Richard Dennis in Philadelphia, [Pennsylvania], to Governor John Milledge of Georgia concerning the seizure and attempted sale of free Africans, 8 August 1803.

Nehemiah Denton papers, 1831-1844
Correspondence and other business materials of this Brooklyn, New York, resident with business interests in Mobile, Alabama. Aside from extensive business correspondence, it includes detailed descriptions of Mobile's antebellum social life, and accounts of yellow fever epidemics and fires.

Letter dated 15 February 1848, written from Mexico City to sister, Miss A. W. Dodson, Telaga Spring, Chatooga County, Georgia.

Drayton Doherty letters, 1910-1927
This collection pertains principally the World War One service of Dr. Drayton Doherty (1893-1969) of Selma, Alabama. It contains more than sixty letters from Doherty to his parents during his service in France, in which he served as a medical officer, chiefly with the British Second Army. Other items in the collection include some official correspondence relative to Doherty’s military service, a miscellany of personal papers, and three photographs.

Michael Dorman papers, 1968-1976
This collection consists principally of research material used in the writing of "The Wallace Myth." Correspondence, proposals, and the book manuscript are among them. Galley proofs of two other books, "The Second Man," an overview of the changing role of the Vice Presidency and "Stockcar Butterworth," a book about stock car racing, are also part of the collection, as are poems, most of them unpublished, and copies of several published articles.

Gwen McWhorter and Fleta McWhorter Dowling papers, 1943-1949
This collection consists of letters between Fleta McWhorter Dowling and her sister Gwen McWhorter, 1943-46, chiefly concerning the latter’s doctoral dissertation subject, some letters from others to Gwen McWhorter, and two Gwen McWhorter problem statements on the use of participation in the development of school health programs.

Judson Dowling papers, 1921-1941
The collection consists of materials relative to Dr. Judson Dowling’s activities as Birmingham’s first permanent Public Health Officer, 1917-1941, biographical materials about Dowling’s career, and materials concerning posthumous tributes and memorials to Dowling’s life and achievements.
