Looking for books on Clothing, Apparel or Textiles?   Most books are located on floors 2M, 3, or 4M of the Gorgas Library. If you are browsing, here are some call number areas that will have materials:

Looking for articles?  The best place to start looking for articles is in one of the Libraries' databases. What is a database?  A database is an organized collection of information (which includes journal, magazine and newspaper articles) that is in an electronic format. Below are some recommended databases to start with if you need to find articles for a research paper. These databases are only a few of the numerous databases the University Library makes available to you.  To access these or any other databases, go to http://www.lib.ua.edu/databases/ and go to the appropriate letter for the name of the database, OR go to the Subject Listing for Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.

Suggested Databases to start with

Art Full Text   This database indexes, abstracts, and full-text from international periodicals, yearbooks, and museum bulletins. Areas covered include archaeology, architecture, art, film, humanities, marketing, motion pictures and photography.

DAAI: Design and Applied Arts Index   Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI) is the leading source of abstracts and bibliographic records for articles, news items, and reviews published in design and applied arts periodicals from 1973 onwards. An indispensable tool for students, researchers, and practitioners worldwide, DAAI covers both new designers and the development of design and the applied arts since the mid-19th century, surveying disciplines including ceramics, glass, jewelery, wood, metalsmithing, graphic design, fashion and clothing, textiles, furniture, interior design, architecture, computer aided design, Web design, computer-generated graphics, animation, product design, industrial design, garden design, and landscape architecture

Textile Technology Index   The Textile Technology Index is designed to serve academic institutions and libraries by providing extensive coverage of the scientific and technological aspects of textile production and processing. The Textile Technology Index contains indexing and abstracting for over 400 periodical titles, and for thousands of titles drawn from sources such as books, conferences, theses, technical reports, and trade literature.

Academic Search Premier Academic Search Premier contains the full text for nearly 4,700 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications. It also contains indexing and abstracts for over 8,000 magazines, news sources and refereed journals in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies and more.

Research Library Complete  This resource provides indexing and full text for a basic collection of general-interest, humanities, social science and science periodicals and newspapers; 1986 to present. Divided into Newspapers and periodicals sections.

Print and E-JOURNALS

The library provides server al print and electronic journals for research in Interior Design. To determine whether a particular journal is available as an e-journal, go to the Libraries e-journal page and type in the title of the journal. To locate a print journal, go the library's catalog: http://library.ua.edu  and search by journal title. Current issues of print journals can be found in the Periodicals Reading Room on the Second floor and are arranged alphabetically by title.  Older issues of print journals are located on floor 4M and are arranged in call number order. Below is a list of journals that may be helpful.  E-journals are designated by an (E).
