DATABASES

Note: To access a database, go to the Libraries’ Database Page , select the appropriate letter in the alphabet, and then select the database. Databases marked FT in the list below include at least some full-text material.

Subject Databases

American Humanities Index – An index to 700+ literary and scholarly journals, 1975-present.

Art Full Text/Art Index Retrospective – Indexes articles on classical art and archaeology. FT

Arts and Humanities Citation Index – Online version (1985-present) of the print work of the same name, available through ISI Web of Science.

ATLA Religion Database – An index to articles on religion. FT

JSTOR – A full-text collection of significant scholarly journals, including a section devoted to classical studies. Coverage in most cases extends from the first issue of a journal to a date 3-5 years past. Recent issues are not included in this database.

Literature Resource Center – Biographies, bibliographies, and critical analysis of 90,000+ authors from ancient times to the present. FT

LLBA (Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts) – Abstracts of articles, books, and dissertations in the field of linguistics.

MLA International Bibliography – The Modern Language Association ’ s index (1963-present) of articles, monographs, working papers, proceedings, etc. in the fields of literature, language, linguistics, and folklore.

Philosopher ’ s Index – An international index of articles and book selections from the 1940s to the present on all aspects of philosophy.

Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) – A digital library containing most literary texts written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in 1453. FT

Library of Congress, Alcove 9: An Annotated List of Reference Websites: Classical and Medieval History [http://www.loc.gov/rr/main/alcove9/classics.html] – LC’s selection of essential Web sites, including several online journals.

Voices of the Shuttle [http://vos.ucsb.edu/] – A Web site for humanities research, with links to many valuable sites. Sections include Literatures (Other Than English), Literary Theory, Cultural Studies, and Gender Studies. WESS (Western European Studies Section, Association of College and Research Libraries) [http://www.dartmouth.edu/~wessweb/index.html]– A gateway to Internet resources relating to all aspects of Western European Studies. Available through the Libraries’ Database Page .

Internet Classics Archive [http://classics.mit.edu/] – 441 works of classical literature by 59 authors.

Perseus Digital Library [http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/] – A large digital library maintained by Tufts University, including Greek and Latin texts, grammars and dictionaries; the Duke Databank of Documentary Papyri; and collections relating to the English Renaissance, London, various U.S. regions, and the history of science. Also available through the Libraries’ Database Page [http://www.lib.ua.edu/databases/dbsearch.htm].

Textkit: Greek and Latin Learning Tools [http://www.textkit.com/] – A site that provides free and fully downloadable Greek and Latin grammars and readers.
