Business Reference Librarian


RESPONSIBILITIES

The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a dynamic Business Reference Librarian with a user-centered focus to participate in the delivery of quality business information, instructional and research services to the nationally-recognized Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration.  The College includes approximately 100 faculty and 5,000 undergraduate, as well as, 400 graduate students in MBA, Executive MBA and doctoral programs.

The librarian in this position will provide business information services including course-specific instruction, reference, development of Web tutorials, campus and external outreach, individual and group consultation and research assistance to students and faculty in the Culverhouse College and will help support business reference interests campus-wide. The position includes some night reference service hours. The library is staffed by four business librarians, five classified staff, and numerous student assistants. The person in this position works collegially in a team environment and reports to the Head of the Angelo Bruno Business Library.

 

REQUIREMENTS

MLS from a program accredited by the ALA. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse user groups including graduate students, undergraduates, faculty, staff and librarians. Initiative and flexibility. Strong customer service orientation. Facility with presentation and productivity software applications. Demonstrated knowledge of business research resources.
Evidence of potential to meet University requirements for promotion and tenure. Ability to meet professional standards and competencies such as those set forth by the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) http://www.aserl.org/statements/competencies/competencies.htm

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Business reference and instruction experience in an academic or research library. Experience using electronic and print business, finance and governmental information services. Interest in applying Web 2.0 technologies to benefit users. Degree or course work in business-related field, preferably the MBA.

The modern Bruno Library building is located within the three-building College of Commerce complex and also houses the college’s Bashinsky Computer Center. SALARY/BENEFITS

12-month tenure track appointment at Assistant or Associate professor. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Strong benefits including professional development support and tuition fee waiver. Substantial moving allowance available.
