Research Assistance
Users requiring extensive research assistance (including assistance with electronic information resources) and training on the adaptive technologies equipment may request research assistance from the instruction librarian in the appropriate library. If possible, extensive research assistance should be requested in advance.
General Reference Requests
General reference requests usually can be accommodated at the reference desks in each library without prior arrangement.
Retrieving Materials
In Gorgas Library, staff members in the Information Services Department (the government documents and reference collections) and in the music, current periodicals, and reserve units will retrieve materials in their areas for library users with special needs if time permits. Books and journals from the general stack areas will be retrieved for users with special needs by the staff at the circulation desk. To ensure prompt service, it's best to call ahead. Users at Bruno Business Library, McLure Education Library, and Rodgers Science & Engineering Library should request assistance retrieving materials at the circulation or reference desk in each library. Microforms
The staff in the microforms collections in Gorgas Library (2nd floor) and in each of the other libraries will assist users in retrieving materials and in operating the equipment. Telephone and Electronic Reference
Library users with hearing impairments may use the Alabama Relay Network for telephone assistance at any library service point. A TTY is available in Hoole Library (205) 348-0522. If you prefer, you may link to Ask-A-Librarian to send a reference request electronically.
Photocopying

Library Instruction
Specialized library orientation tours and instruction can be arranged through the instruction librarian in the appropriate library
