- About UA Libraries
All the libraries have curb cuts, ramps and parking spaces designated for the use by patrons with disabilities. For specific information about accessible parking, please call the appropriate library location in advance.
Elevators and Floors
Elevators and the individual floors of the libraries are wheelchair-accessible with the following exception:
- The lower level of the McLure Education Library cannot be accessed by elevator. Wheelchair access is available weekdays only though a tunnel from Graves Hall. Contact the main desk at McLure Library at (205) 348-6055 before using this route.
Restrooms in the libraries are wheelchair-accessible with the following exceptions:
- Gorgas Library has two fully accessible restrooms: one on the 1st floor (near the Information Desk) and one on the 4th floor. Also, the restroom on the second floor is accessible to some wheelchairs.
- McLure Library only has restrooms on the lower level, which cannot be accessed by elevator. Wheelchair access to the lower level, and to the restrooms, is only available by way of the tunnel from Graves Hall.
All libraries provide wheelchair access to public workstations.
Courtesy telephones are located at wheelchair level in all libraries.
When an emergency occurs, users with special needs should seek assistance from library staff members. Please note that in Gorgas Library there may not always be a staff member on every floor. In the event of an emergency, users are asked to consult the emergency evacuation maps posted throughout the buildings. Areas on each floor have been designated for patrons in need of assistance. Emergency response personnel will check these areas as part of standard emergency response procedures.
Two-way communication devices are installed in Gorgas Library and in Bruno Library to allow patrons to contact University Police directly in the event of an emergency.
