Building Entrances
All the libraries have curb cuts, ramps and parking spaces designated for the use of disabled patrons.
Elevators and Rest Rooms
Elevators and rest rooms in the libraries are wheelchair accessible with the following exceptions:
- The lower level of the McLure Education Library cannot be accessed by elevator. Wheelchair access is available weekdays only though a tunnel from Graves Hall. Contact the main desk at McLure Library at (205) 348-6055 before using this route.
- One rest room in Gorgas Library (second floor) and one in McLure Library are accessible to some wheelchairs. The fully accessible rest room in Gorgas Library is on the fourth floor.
Equipment
All libraries provide wheelchair access to public workstations.
Courtesy telephones are located at wheelchair level in all libraries.
Emergency
When an emergency occurs, users with special needs should seek assistance from library staff members. Please note that in Gorgas Library there may not always be a staff member on every floor. In the event of an emergency, users are asked to consult the emergency evacuation maps posted throughout the buildings. Areas on each floor have been designated for patrons in need of assistance. Emergency response personnel will check these areas as part of standard emergency response procedures.
Two-way communication devices are installed in all libraries to allow patrons to contact University Police directly in the event of an emergency.
