A letter dated 29 May 1864 from a Confederate soldier to his mother and sister while stationed in Bayou La Batre, Alabama.
Promissory note dated January 1, 1858, in which The University of Alabama agreed to pay $150 to W. J. Hays for the use of a slave named Paul for one year. The note is signed by george Benagh, a professor acting on behalf of the University.

This collection consists of one letter from Benedict, stationed at Camp McClellan, Iowa, to a Miss Susan Benedict, perhaps his sister, written 31 August 1861. Benedict mentions that there are fourteen prisoners there, one a "rebble [sic] Colonel With one arm off".

This collection consists of Berkey's discharge from United States military service. Berkey enlisted on 4 November 1862 and was discharged as of 31 December 1964, prior to the completion of his three year enlistment "by reason of S.O. No. 211, dated Hd Qrs M[ilitary] D[istrict of] W[est] Miss[issippi] dec [sic] 12 1864". The discharge took place at Morganza, Lousiana.
Contains material created and kept by the Berman family of St. Louis, Missouri. Letters written by Dr. William (Bill) Berman and his wife Marian make up the bulk of the collection. These are primarily letters written, often in Hebrew, by Bill and Marian from Ft. Riley, Kansas, where Bill served as an Army doctor during World War Two.
