How To Search
Poem Finder

Poem Finder is an electronic resource that can easily locate over 85,000 online poem texts and 800,000 poem references. Some author biographies, pictures, and explanations of poetry are also available. Many poems have online full-texts! Texts of poems with references can be located by looking for the referenced anthology in the Libraries’ Catalog. In Poem Finder you can search for poems by title or author. You can even find a poem if you only remember a few words from the poem’s lyrics. Poem Finder also contains a link to a Story Finder.

Getting Started

Click "Poem Finder" on the Libraries’ databases list.

Searching

Basic Search: Simply enter any word(s), phrase, author, or title in the search window and click on "Go." Basic Search looks for all of the terms and then ranks the results by relevance. Poems that most closely match your search terms will appear at the top. Enter exact titles or phrases in quotation marks.

Poems with online full-texts will have a "T" next to their titles.

Advanced Search: Type in a word(s) or phrase in each Search for: box. Connect the keywords by filling in AND, OR, BUT NOT. You can limit your search to a specific part of a poem by selecting from the drop down menu in each Search in: box. For example, you can search all the authors for "Frost". Or, you can search all the poem titles for "road" .

Subject Navigator: Allows you to browse poems on a particular subject such as Religion, People, Nature, History and others. Click on a particular icon and then scroll down to browse subdivisions.

Example: Subject Navigator--à People-à Women-à Women and Religion

Displays poetry about women and religion.
