Literature on Line
(LION)

LION is a fully searchable library of more than 330,000 works of English and American poetry, drama and prose. It also includes bibliographies, biographies, and key criticism and reference sources. Most are in full-text. The database is continually adding new entries.

Getting Started

Simply click on "Literautre Online" on the Libraries’ Databases list.

Basic Searching

Find Authors:
Find works by authors and works about authors.
***Search can be limited by date, gender, nationality, ethnicity, literature movement or literature period.

Find Works:
Find works by title and link to other works and information on their Authors.
***Search can be limited by drama, poetry or prose. Also, by date, author, title or keyword.

Browse Authors and Works:

Browse on an alphabetical list of all authors in LION to find their works, works about them and biographies.
***Search can be limited by all of the above. Also, in advanced search, by publication date, years or gender.

Search Texts:

Search hundreds of thousands of works by word, phrase, literary period, date, and by name and gender of the author.


Search Criticism and Reference:

Find information on authors and their works including references to articles, monographs, dissertations, web-sites and journal articles.

Knowledge Notes:

Consult our text-based student guides offering in-depth analysis of major literary works.

Help/Contents:

Information about any of the features on LION. Help provides assistance with the various searches you can perform, and it also describes the format of the results screens.

Who Wrote?:

type in whole title of the work or keywords from the title and click on find.

Printing

> Click the file button on the far left of the top tool bar.
> Select print from the list> Click on OK button
> Type in your name
> Click OK button
> The item is now sent to the copier
> Go to the monitor and swipe your UA identification card (with Bama cash) or your community user card.
> Click on your name on the monitor
> The copies will now be created.
