> Connect words with OR to find articles that contain either word.
Example: football or baseball finds articles that contain either football or baseball.

> Connect words with NOT to find articles that contain one word but not another.
Example: sports not football finds articles that contain sports but not football.

> Enclose phrases in quotation marks:
Example: "Baseball Hall of Fame" finds this exact phrase.

> Use an asterick on the root of a keyword to find various endings.
Example: swim* finds swim, swimmer, swimmers, swimming

> Limit your search to : -- articles with online texts
--
scholarly or professional articles from refereed publications
-- a certain date range

Viewing Texts

Articles with online texts have the blue message Text under the articles’ titles. Other articles will only have Citations or Abstracts. Users may find texts for these citations or abstracts by searching in the Libraries’ Catalog. (See below)

What if the articles do not have online texts?

Look in Libraries’ Catalog to see if the Library has the journal containing the article:

> Minimize Infotrac (or print out the citations)
> Enter the Libraries Catalog (http://library.ua.edu/).
> Select "Basic Search"
> Type in the name of the journal or magazine (not the title of the article).
> Highlight "Journal Title" in the "Find Results in" menu.
> Click "Search"
> The journal will appear if the library owns it.
> Scroll down and see if the Library Has the appropriate month and year of the journal or magazine (Please note: if multiple headings for the journal appear, click on each heading to see if the library owns the appropriate month and year.)

> Write down the Location and Call Number for the journal or magazine.
