How To Search
Associations Unlimited
Associations Unlimited is a computerized database that contains the name, contact information, and a brief description of purpose and/or function about various organizations that are either, local, national, or international in scope. It also includes IRS data on nonprofit organizations. You can print, save, or email the information at your computer!
Searching by Name or Acronym
Searching by Association Name:
If you feel certain you remember the exact name of the organization choose the
Association Name box and enter the full name.
Example: to search for the American Cancer
Society enter the complete name in the Name field and you should get many results.
Searching by Acronym:
If you feel you don't know the exact name, but you do recall the acronym choose
the acronym box and enter the appropriate letters.
Example: to search for the American Library Association, type in "ALA" and
click search. Then scroll down the screen until you see the organization you were
looking for.
Put phrases in quotation marks:
Example: "Phi Beta Kappa"
Searching By Subject
> Select SUBJECT/Any WORD SEARCH
> In the FREE TEXT field, enter any word or words
> To search by SUBJECT DESCRIPTOR click on "list of subjects" and choose the
subject most appropriate for your search.
> To search by SUBJECT CATEGORY click on the field and choose a category appropriate
for your search.
> Example: Enter "families" in the free text field and using the subject descriptors
choose educational organizations.
Super Searching
> Click on "Custom Search" near
the middle of the screen to specify your search to cities, postal codes, year
founded, number of members and more.
> Click on "Expert Search" if you feel very secure in your
searching skills and you want to search nearly every aspect of Associations Unlimited.
Printing, Saving, Emailing
Printing is free if you are using Associations Unlimited from off-campus. Printing costs 5 cents a page inside the Library, and you must use an Action Card to print. You can load Bama Cash on an Action Card at the Value Transfer Station in the Copy Room.
Printing or saving full-texts:
> Click the "format for printing" button on the left margin beside
the article’s text.
> Click on the print icon in the browser window.
> Click "OK" (If you are printing inside the Library, type in your
name and pay for your print job at the printer station).
***To return to the list of articles: Exit the
screen. Click the "Back" button in the center of the page. Click "Results
List" to return to the list of articles.
Emailing articles:
> Click the "Email Data Home" button on the left margin beside
the article.
> Type in your email address and click "Send".
> Check your email account to make sure the articles were sent.
