These are some of the options available on the Basic Search screen.

Choose...  
Title If you know a title of a book (omit the inital A, An, The)
Journal Title If you want to know whether the library subscribes to a periodical
Author If you know an author of a book (last name, first name)
Subject If you know an official Library of Congress Subject Heading
Keyword-Boolean If you understand how to construct a search with phrases and Boolean operators.
Call Number If you want to scan the collection by call number


We will focus on these 4 search techniques:

  • Keyword-Boolean (and, or, not)
  • Subject
  • Author
  • Title
